A number of options are available for helping the Chinese people recover from this devastating earthquake. A major earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale jolted Wenchuan County in southwest China's Sichuan Province on May 12 th, causing serious casualties and loss of property. Shortly thereafter, people of all walks of life in the southern United States expressed, through various channels, condolences and sympathy to the people of the quake area. Many institutions and friends also wished to donate to the quake-devastated area.
